One of the early black-type races on the Doomben Racecourse card in Brisbane this weekend is the Calaway Gal Stakes 2016 where Champ Elect is clear favourite to win.

Due to run as Doomben Race 2 at 1:02pm (local) on Saturday afternoon, this summer’s $100,000 Listed International Interior Images Calaway Gal Stakes (1110m) field is down to 10 starters after the scratching of Initialize (12) and Pricing Power (9).
Heading the updated Calaway Gal Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $2.60 to remain undefeated is the Chris Munce-trained Champ Elect.
Jumping from barrier six (in from seven) with top Brisbane hoop Damian Browne aboard, the Choisir filly comes of a win on debut at the same track and distance on November 5.
She was short-priced top elect that run and will start the punters’ pick again as she heads towards a run in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 14.
Occupying the second line of Calaway Gal Stakes betting this Brisbane Summer Racing Carnival at $4.60 and firming is early market mover Sista Act, backed in from $7.
Drawn a treat in gate two with Jeff Lloyd to ride, the Liam Birchley-trained Falvelon filly has her third career run and chases back-to-back victories.
After a fifth at Eagle Farm on November 19 she broke her maiden status at the Sunshine Coast later that month with a one length win from the inside alley and should be gifted a similar run from her nice gate this weekend.
Equal at $7 for the win are Birchley’s other runner Real Princess and the unraced We Have Lift Off drawn in barriers four and one respectively.
Real Princess is a James Orman mount, the daughter of Real Saga having enjoyed a one and a half-length success with the same hoop aboard on October 1.
Sydney’s Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott saddle-up Exceed And Excel filly We Have Lift Off for her debut in Queensland, the up-and-comer having trialled twice at home including a recent 900m Rosehill winning hit-out from December 6.
Rounding out the single-figure fancies for the win are John Zielke’s Bradbury’s Luck grey coming off a Toowoomba win by nearly four lengths on debut just last weekend Make My Own Luck ($9) and the Steven O’Dea-trained Dream Kisses ($9.50).
