2016 Kingston Town Classic Target for Samovare

Impressive weekend Ascot winner Samovare could back-up in a fortnight’s time and take on a class field of older rivals in the Kingston Town Classic 2016.

Connections of the Daniel Morton-trained Savabeel filly are considering the weight-for-age $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on December 3 for the three-year-old after her one length win in last Saturday’s $200,000 Group 3 W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m).

A $5 chance in betting, she beat home the better fancied duo of Ellicazoom ($3.20) and I Am Boudica ($4.20) to break her Black-Type duck.

Samovare has now won two of her five career starts and appreciated the step up to a mile on the weekend after her lead-up third to Ellicazoom in the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m).

Jockey Brad Parnham continued associations with the up-and-comer and gave her the gun ride in the set weights race from her wide barrier 10 of 12 draw, coming from fourth on the pace to beat home the luckless favourite by a length.

“We had an inkling Paul might go forward on I Am Boudica and it worked out beautifully,” winning trainer Morton told The West Australian post-win.

“We knew if he did we could just track him up and I said to Brad ‘don’t die wondering coming to the corner, she’ll run a mile out and make them chase you’.

“She’s a classic filly. I wasn’t joking when I said I’ve never put a saddle on a nicer filly.”

Morton added that the Kingston Town Classic was at this stage the preferred target for the filly over a quick back-up into the $500,000 Group 2 W.A. Guineas (1600m) taking on the boys this Saturday, November 19, on Railway Stakes Day.

The three-year-old form has been dominant in recent Kingston Town Classic results with four youngsters saluting since 2007.

Last Perth Summer Racing Carnival the Grant Williams-trained Perfect Reflection (2015) completed the WA Fillies Championship Stakes – Kingston Town Classic double Samovare looks set to vie for this season.

Pre-nomination Kingston Town Classic odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by the reigning champion Perfect Reflection ($7) who was last seen winning the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) on November 5.

She will be attempting back-to-back Kingston Town Classic wins for the first time since Playing God (2010-11).

Close second favourite in all-in Kingston Town Classic betting at $8 is stablemate Disposition who ran a half-length second in the Lee Steere last time out.

Disposition has had four Group 1 runs to date including his second to Moriarty in the 2014 Kingston Town Classic.

He also finished runner-up in the 2015 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and Toorak Handicap in Melbourne.

Samovare meanwhile is further down this year’s markets at $17.
