The last on a cracking 10-race Caulfield Guineas Day card in Melbourne on the weekend sees a smart field of sprinters face off in the 2016 Schillaci Stakes, betting tips and the latest odds for which are detailed below.

Due to jump at 5:45pm (AEDT) as Caulfield Race 10, this year’s $400,000 Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m) features a line-up of 12 short-distance weight-for-age hopefuls led in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au by Star Turn ($2.70).
The three-year-old gets the weight relief against his older rivals and is the market mover and clear top fancy in Schillaci Stakes betting to post his second win from three runs this time in.
So can the Team Hawkes-trained Star Witness colt get the job done for the punters or will one of the more experienced Schillaci Stakes runners score the upset such as first-up specialist Malaguerra ($9) or the in-form Ocean Embers ($10) representing the mares?

#7 Malaguerra ($9)
Returning run for Peter Gelagotis’ Magnus five-year-old who has won all four of his first-up starts to date. Loves racing fresh and is out to atone for the Stradbroke Handicap ninth last start during the winter. Is not all that suited to Caulfield, but won the Group1 BTC Cup (1200m) in Brisbane last campaign so has class. Is two-from-three over these metres and if he’s back to his best is more than capable of winning this in an open affair.

#6 Dothraki ($14)
Peter & Paul Snowden’s son of Mossman was runner-up in the BTC Cup in mid-May and is second-up on Saturday following the close fourth at the track / distance when only a quarter length off the winner Takedown in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) from September 17. Will improve off that, goes well second-up (8-3-1-3) and from gate three is a big chance to finish in the money here.

#12 Star Turn ($2.70)
All the money is coming in for the young favourite who Craig Williams rides third up. He won the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill first-up giving him a nice record over the metres (3-2-1-0) that he is back down to here after the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) second last time out. He’s been freshened-up since that late August run, the form of which was franked with the Golden Rose win of Astern, and if he handles WFA he can return to winning form.
