Jumping as Moonee Valley Race 5 at 8:30pm (AEST), this season’s $200,000 Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) has 11 runners and the current markets at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by market mover Inference ($6 into $4.40).
The Team Hawkes-trained So You Think colt is also still officially in the mix for Sunday’s $120,000 Listed UCI Stakes (1800m), but the money is on him for tonight’s more lucrative feature after his back-to-back September wins in easier company.
The other top fancies in the current Bill Stutt Stakes betting markets include last start winner over 1514m at the Valley Hey Doc ($5), Peter & Paul Snowden’s Exford Plate winner at Flemington Detective ($6) and the John O’Shea-trained runner-up in the same lead-up Tessera ($6).
With so many chances with genuine claims see below for who to sack and who to sack in the Stutt Stakes tonight through Ladbrokes.com.au.
1st
#1 Detective ($6)
Tipping this consistent Snitzel colt from Sydney to keep the winning streak going and handle the step-up to a mile. He is a Group 2 placegetter at Flemington from the autumn, Group 1 performed in Sydney back in April, won first-up at Wyong and then took out the Listed Exford Plate (1400m) back at Flemington last start. Whether he likes the Valley circuit is the question, but from barrier five with Blake Shinn in the saddle he looks the winner.
2nd
#3 Hey Doc ($5)
This Tony McEvoy-trained son of Duporth also shoots for a winning hat-trick after victories at Sandown (under big kilos) and Moonee Valley last time out. The Valley win was gutsy from barrier 10 (of 13) over 1514m and he won it by over a length. The step-up to a mile is a non-issue, handled the tight turns here well and if he handles the class he’s in with a big hope of a Group 2 win on the record.
3rd
#5 Manhattan Rain ($7.50)
Visiting Kiwi raider for Lisa Latta is out to keep the good three-year-old form of the New Zealanders going down under this season. Has won three of his four starts and finished runner-up to VRC Derby hope Highlad last time out. Yet to race over further than 1340m, but is trying to get into the Caulfield Guineas field Saturday week so pressure is on to peform.
