Due to jump as Moonee Valley Race 6 at 9:00pm (AEST) on the eight-race Moir Stakes Night program, this season’s $200,000 Group 2 Zoustar Stocks Stakes (1600m) has attracted a final field of 11 mares.
Drawn well in barrier five is the Tony McEvoy-trained Not A Single Doubt four-year-old Don’t Doubt Mamma who chases back-to-back Group 2 Melbourne wins.
She enjoyed a narrow victory at Flemington on September 10 in the Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) and is back up to a mile on Friday night for the first time since her third to Mahuta in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) last November.
Drawn one on her inside in the Stocks Stakes field and barriers this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival is the race’s highest-rated acceptor Rising Romance.
Damian Lane rides the David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained Ekraar six-year-old four the fifth time on the trot, Rising Romance down in class after running in Group 1 company in her six latest runs.
She placed second first-up to Black Heart Bart in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) after returning home from a run in Hong Kong, and is out to improve on her seventh to Palentino from September 10 in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.
Rising Romance is best known for her Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) win as a three-year-old back in 2014, and is yet to run at Moonee Valley or win over a mile.
She is ed in the Stutt Stakes field be stablemate Jessy Belle (barrier seven), a six-year-old daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar coming off a close fourth when just over half a length away from Don’t Doubt Mamma in the Let’s Elope Stakes.
Jessy Belle is somewhat of a Moonee Valley track specialist having enjoyed three wins, a second and a third at the course from her eight runs to date, but hasn’t raced here since June of 2015.
Also high up the ratings is the Danny O’Brien-trained Miss Rose De Lago in gate nine with Damien Oliver continuing his association with the six-year-old.
He has ridden her twice this campaign for the first-up Caulfield win in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m), and the disappointing last when things went amiss from the outside alley in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) in early September.
Miss Rose De Lago returns to the Moonee Valley mile and in a smaller field of fellow mares will be looking to make up for the big Dato’ defeat.
