2016 Golden Pendant Results: Tycoon Tara Wins Again

A trip to the breeding barn is set to stay on hold for the rejuvenated Peter & Paul Snowden-trained mare Tycoon Tara who posted her third Group win in four starts this spring in the weekend’s Golden Pendant 2016.

Snowden has turned the form of the Written Tycoon mare around tremendously this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, Tycoon Tara taking her overall career record up to nine wins from 26 starts in the lucrative $400,000 Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m) in the feature Rosehill Gardens race on Saturday.

First-up on a Heavy (10) Randwick track on August 6 she won her first Group race since the 2015 Mannerism Stakes in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m), and she won again second-up defeating Group 1 winner Le Romain in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m).

After a close last start fourth under a length off the winner Mackintosh when taking on the boys in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill a fortnight back, Tycoon Tara relished coming back against her own kind in the Golden Pendant.

Comeback hoop Joshua Parr came aboard for the ride from barrier two, Tycoon Tara quick out of the gates and going forward early to hit the lead.

She led the field around from the Ron Quinton-trained Street Sense four-year-old Dixie Blossoms who also went forward early, out to improve on her 12th to Heavens Above in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) last start from a wide barrier.

Race favourite, John Thompson’s returning Group 1 winner First Seal meanwhile was tucked away fourth one off the rails.

It was a beautiful rated ride in front from Parr on Tycoon Tara who turned into a total on-pace domination race taking the eventual Golden Pendant winner into a more forward position.

Leading up towards the home turn, the John O’Shea-trained Pearls was working up on the inside as the favourite First Seal was fifth one off the fence still and Heavens Above after getting back early started to improve.

Tycoon Tara was held together around the corner and kicked away on the straight despite the challenges from the likes of First Seal, who came charging but didn’t have the sprint in the end to go with them.

They were all chasing but Tycoon Tara ($4.60) pulled off the impressive all-the-way win with Dixie Blossoms ($13) fighting on well for second ahead of Pearls ($13) who finished off the Golden Pendant trifecta.

“It’s really nice to get a big race win,” Parr said.

“She’s a superb mare.

“She was just so nice for me mid-race. She had a nice breather in the middle stages and was able to build momentum and let down off that.

“What a mare!”

Co-trainer Peter Snowden was also impressed with the white hot form of Tycoon Tara who he said would race on and chase more Group wins this spring.

“She’s supposed to be [heading to the breeding barn] but we’ll put that on the backburner as she keeps on improving,” he said.

“She’s a race hard fit mare and tries very, very hard.

“She’s easy to ride, makes her own luck and is very, very genuine.

“She’s just turned a corner big time. I think she’s in a really good spot.

“A magnificent type, she’s almost like a clot, so huge and strong all over with a great will to win.

“I’ll have to think about things now, but she’s racing so well we’ll find another race for her shortly.”
