Divine Prophet Heads 2016 Stan Fox Stakes Field & Betting

Caulfield Guineas-bound Sydneysider Divine Prophet is one of just six remaining three-year-olds in the Stan Fox Stakes 2016 field at home at Rosehill Gardens this weekend on Golden Pendant Day.

Set to run as Rosehill Race 5 at 2:35pm (AEST), this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) originally drew a final field of seven runners.

The early scratching of the Chris Waller-trained High Mist (1), who instead runs in the $200,000 Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) over more metres later on the line-up, leaves just six hopefuls.

The past two Stan Fox Stakes winners both backed-up to win Melbourne’s $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) next start with Shooting To Win (2014) and Press Statement (2015) completing the double.

Divine Prophet chases that same double this season, the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained Choisir colt at $2.30 through Ladbrokes.com.au to win the first leg as favourite in Stan Fox Stakes betting this Saturday.

Jumping from barrier four with Christian Reith aboard in place of Tommy Berry, Divine Prophet won the Group 1 Up & Coming Stakes (1300m) first-up before his fourth to Astern when beaten under three lengths in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) last start.

He is also Group 1 placed in Sydney as a two-year-old having run only a length away third to Prized Icon in April’s Champagne Stakes over the mile.

Hot on Divine Prophet’s heels in the updated Stan Fox Stakes odds at $2.70 and firming is a stablemate of the Golden Rose winner, the John O’Shea-trained Impending.

Jumping one outside of Saturday’s favourite, Impending has star Sydney hoop James McDonald as he looks to shake his placegetter status.

After a big 2.5 length win on debut back in late April at the Rosehill track, Lonhro colt Impending has since run third in his three latest runs.

That includes a last start effort to his stablemate in the Golden Rose when only 2.5 lengths away, an effort he’s prime to improve on this weekend over 100m further in a smaller field.

Third favourite in the markets at $6.50 is Good Standing, the James Cummings-trained Group 2 winner also accepted for a Melbourne run in Saturday’s $175,000 Group 3 Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m).

Last time out the son of Artie Schiller ran fifth in the Golden Rose as a 51/1 roughie shot and if he stays in Sydney for the Stan Fox Stakes, will jump from barrier one with Rory Hutchings in the saddle.

Rounding out this year’s Stan Fox Stakes field and markets are the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Smart Missile colt Mediterranean ($9), the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained son of Snitzel Thronum ($13) and the outsider in betting Cellarman ($31) for champion Sydney trainer Waller.
