2016 Warwick Stakes Betting Tips & Update

The headline race in Sydney on Saturday at Royal Randwick Racecourse is the Warwick Stakes 2016, betting tips for the event that marks the return of Australia’s top rated racehorse Winx found below.

Winx

Odds-on favourite Winx looks a sure thing in 2016 Warwick Stakes tipping for this Saturday at Randwick in Sydney. Photo: Steve Hart.

Chris Waller’s six-time Group 1 winning daughter of Street Cry is the obvious favourite in a small seven-starter field for the weight-for-age $250,000 Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m), which runs as Randwick Race 7 at 3:40pm (AEST).

She finished off her autumn with a brilliant two length win as the $1.90 favourite at the track in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m), which was her ninth consecutive victory and fourth straight as the odds-on tip.

Now a five-year-old, the recently-crowned NSW Horse of the Year is set to jump at her shortest starting price to date currently paying $1.35 in the Warwick Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.

She reunites with Hugh Bowman in barrier four, is the reigning Australasian weight-for-age champion with her record-breaking Cox Plate win last season under the same conditions and is doing everything right in lead-up trials and jumpouts.

Winx is the obvious Warwick Stakes tip to win, but which of her rivals will finish in the money behind her on Saturday?

Our 2016 Warwick Stakes Trifecta tip is #6 Winx from #4 Rebel Dane and #7 Lucia Valentina

1st

#6 Winx ($1.35)

Hard to see this champion defeated first-up and she’s all the rage to extend her winning streak to ten on the trot. She showed she was fit and fresh with an excellent piece of work on Thursday morning, Bowman knows her very well, barrier suits, she loves Randwick (9-5-3-0), is strong at the distance (4-2-1-0) especially resuming and is a first-up flyer (5-4-0-0). So many boxes ticked, is suited at WFA and event at the short price is impossible not to back for the win here.

2nd

#4 Rebel Dane ($8.50)

Value in the market looks to be in Rebel Dane, Gary Portelli’s California Dane stallion coming into the race with a wealth of experience. He has had three runs at the track / distance without a top three finish, but was only just off the placegetters when fourth in the All Aged Stakes in mid-April. Returned on a Heavy (10) in the Missile Stakes when runner-up to Tycoon Tara and will have taken benefit from the run. He’ll get a better surface on Saturday and can run second to Winx in his first encounter against the superstar.

3rd

#7 Lucia Valentina ($5.50)

Plenty of hype on Kris Lees’ Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner who would be favourite without Winx dominating things. She’s the only other runner getting any kind of love from the punters and has won two of her six first-up runs to date. She trialled well at Gosford at the start of the month and jumps from the inside alley with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle. It is her first clash with Winx, the duo heading towards a Cox Plate battle in October, and she won’t win but is a must for exotics.
