Dixie Blossoms Tops 2016 Toy Show Quality Betting

Ron Quinton’s progressive mare Dixie Blossoms has opened early favourite in an open Toy Show Quality 2016 betting market for the fillies-and-mares’ feature at Randwick this weekend.

Scheduled as the penultimate event on Saturday’s Warwick Stakes Day card, this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Forum Group Toy Show Quality (1300m) runs as Randwick Race 8 at 4:20pm (AEST).

A line-up of 10 female gallopers are engaged to face off in the handicap clash including five currently sitting under $10 for the win in the Toy Show Quality odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Opening favourite at $4 for the win is Street Sense four-year-old Dixie Blossoms who jumps first-up from barrier six with Tim Clark in the saddle.

She has had five starts to date for two wins and two second, her latest run producing a second to Single Gaze at Kembla Grange on March 11 in the Group 3 Keith Nolan Stakes (1600m).

Dixie Blossoms has won her only other first-up run to date and comes off two nice third place trial runs at the track including behind Thyme For Roses over 850m on August 9.

Hot on her heels at $4.20 is the market mover Elle Lou, one of two Chris Waller-trained hopes in the race.

Glyn Schofield is booked to continue his association with the Snitzel five-year-old who rode to victory on July 16 over 1350m at Rosehill Gardens.

Elle Lou carried 60kg to victory that day and will relish the drop back to the 54kg minimum on Saturday.

The next best fancied at $5 is Waller’s second runner, Pioneering drawn a treat in gate four with Tommy Berry set to jump in the saddle of the in-form daughter of Sebring.

Four-year-old Pioneering has won her past three races on the trot, the trio of wins all achieved last month including over 1400m at Rosehill on July 30.

She had the inside alley for that set weight plus penalties clash carrying 58.5kg and also drops notably back to just 54kg this weekend as she looks to extend her winning streak in tougher company.

The two other single-figure hopes are Pearls ($6.50) and Heavens Above ($7).

John O’Shea prepares the Godolphin-raced Pearls, the Exceed And Excel four-year-old best known for her win in last year’s Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) in September.

That led to a narrow defeat when fourth and only a three-quarters of a length off the winner Speak Fondly in last spring’s Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) over the Randwick mile.

Pearls hasn’t won a race since the Tea Rose Stakes but looked good in two recent trials, has won first-up before and is well weighted with 54kg.

Heavens Above is at the opposite end of the weight scale allocated 59kg, giving away a minimum 4.5kg to her rivals.

Hugh Bowman rides Tim Martin’s super-consistent Street Cry five-year-old whose last run produced a second to Azkadellia at Randwick in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on April 9.
