Russian Revolution was a clear race favourite after claiming two impressive wins leading into the Vain Stakes, and experienced an ideal jump before immediately taking up the pace in his black type debut.

Experiencing an ideal run in transit, jockey Mark Zahra elected to hug the rails rounding onto the final straight and was greeted with a big turn of foot with 300m to run.

Tiring somewhat in the final 50m, the Snitzel colt maintained a strong-enough sprint to withstand a late charge from Highland Beat; Hardham boxing on for third.

A noticeably tired Zahra delivered a perfectly-timed ride on Russian Revolution in the Vain Stakes, and was pleased he and the horse were able to secure the race win this afternoon.

“He was all out with 100m to go!” Zahra said after crossing the line.

“When he felt the horse coming on the inside, he found enough.

“55kgs is my limit, so I’m just happy with the opportunity for the Snowdens and the horse hung on.”

Stable representative for Peter & Paul Snowden, Jackson Biers was pleased with Russian Revolution’s performance for success in the Vain Stakes and believes he will only improve for the run.

“It was a really tough win,” Biers said.

“He’s a green horse who is still learning his trade and it was a nice front-running ride from Mark.

“He sort of had to do it out the front there on his own, but they all had their chance to get him and they couldn’t get there.

“He’s only had three starts and he’s a young horse, but he’s got plenty of ability and he’s a lovely colt.

“He’ll improve from that as well.”

Russian Revolution immediately stamped himself as a colt to follow upon debuting for success in the Schweppes Maiden Handicap (1100m) on June 8th, and repeated the dose in the Can Assist Volunteers Plate (1200m) at Randwick on June 25th, in what was his only other start prior to the Vain Stakes.
