Mornington trainer Shane Nichols has revealed that classy three-year-old I Am A Star is no sure thing to line up for the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

I Am A Star has more than stamped herself as a filly to follow through a short but impressive racing career so far, but has drawn the wide and awkward barrier 16 for her first-up run in the Quezette Stakes 2016 this weekend.
Having also been included in the field for a race at Bendigo on Sunday, Nichols told Racing Ahead that the plentiful options for three-year-old fillies over the coming weeks means that I Am A Star isn’t forced into starting the 2016 Quezette Stakes on Saturday.
“We haven’t actually been definitive on whether we’re going to run or not,” Nichols said.
“She’s in at Bendigo on Sunday, but I don’t really want to go there, and next Saturday there is the Mitchell McKenzie Stakes at Moonee Valley and a fillies’ race.
“So it’s not imperative she runs this week, but it suits the program to go the Quezette then three weeks into the Atlantic Jewel (Stakes). That does suit us perfectly.
“There’s a lot of options for her. There’s a lot of fillies races on, but they do get stronger.
“Every week there seems to be another nice filly come out, so when you’re up and rolling and going OK it’d be lovely to think you could go and get a little bit more black type or even win a race like this then press on into the spring, which alleviates that little bit of pressure.
“We will not dig her out of the gates – if we do run tomorrow – we’ll let her come out. If she can get three-deep with cover midfield somewhere, then you’re probably in a pretty nice spot.”
I Am A Star ran a credible sixth in the Cove Hotel Handicap (1100m) on debut in April, and responded with impressive and consecutive wins in the Phar Lap Club Plate (1100m) and Group 3 National Stakes (1200m) most recently on May 21st.
