Ruettiger has returned to racing in smart form this time and remains an outright $3.60 favourite in 2016 Aurie’s Star Handicap betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Sooboog ($5) and Smart Volatility ($6).
Will Ruettiger justify favouritism and win the 2016 Aurie’s Star Handicap, or will one of her talented rivals post an upset?
1st
Tashbeeh ($7.50)
The Lindsay Park operation are thrilled with the condition of Tashbeeh leading into his competitive return in the Aurie’s Star Handicap, and the entire should prove extremely tough to beat with only 54kgs in tow. Claiming six wins and a further nine minors through twenty-four competitive starts so far, the son of Commands posted a number of typically smart results through a summer and autumn campaign; highlighted by a win in the talented-rich Doriemus Handicap (2000m) on January 30th. The five-year-old will require luck in running, but he will be partnered by Michael Walker.
2nd
Smart Volatility ($6)
Smart Volatility has been a standout performer in Hong Kong throughout his entire racing career, and has already impressed since arriving in John Sargent’s care this time. Placed several times at the highest level and a multiple stakes winner, the Danewin gelding clearly required a run when debuting in Australia for seventh in the Winter Dash (1200m) on June 25th, but delivered a smart field defeat in the Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) last time out on July 13th. Smart Volatility should receive an ideal run in transit from barrier 2 and will again be partnered by Tye Angland.
3rd
Mighty Like ($6.50)
Mighty Like produced a typically-smart first-up performance for success in the Bruce Gadsden BM90 (1200m) on July 23rd and is sure to carry benefit into the Aurie’s Star Handicap, but will require plenty of luck in transit from barrier 13. The Host gelding’s second-up record isn’t quite as good as his first-up runs generally, but he has reportedly taken plenty of benefit from his return this time and will relish a weighting of only 55kgs.
