Snowden Thrilled With Falkenberg Ahead of Queensland Oaks

Trainer Paul Snowden is the thrilled with the condition of Falkenberg ahead of Saturday’s Queensland Oaks (2400m), and the trainer believes the filly is due for a change in luck when she lines up for the Group 1 feature at Eagle Farm Racecourse.

Snowden and co-trainer father Peter set Falkenberg on a path towards the 2016 Queensland Oaks when the filly posted an impressive five length win in the Schweppes BM67 (1600m) at Warwick Farm on March 28th, but she has since failed to return to winning form through three subsequent starts.

Having been blocked for a run and seventh in the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) a fortnight ago, Snowden told Racing Ahead the filly has continued to train on well in the lead-up to the Queensland Oaks 2016.

“She hasn’t had much luck her last two starts,” Snowden said.

“What happened the other day, doesn’t really happen. When a horse gets a leg up (in the barriers) you call out and get backed out and trotted up and she wasn’t afforded that.

“To get beat the minimal margin she did, was a big effort.

“She’s in the first division in her races, and she was back second-last (in The Roses).”

Falkenberg has posted a commendable two wins and three minors through her eight career starts since first appearing on course competitively in August 2015.

Trialling well in the lead-up to her return this year, the daughter of More Than Ready posted a maiden race win in the Hawkesbury Equine Vet Maiden (1400m) at Hawkesbury first-up on February 25th before running a close second to Happy Hannah in the All Too Hard BM67 (1600m) on March 9th.

Having finished fourth in each of the Schweppes BM78 (1500m) and Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) leading into The Roses, Falkenberg is currently tied on the top line of 2016 Queensland Oaks betting markets with Imposing Lass at a generous quote of $7, with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Falkenberg has been confirmed to be partnered by leading hoop Blake Shinn in the Queensland Oaks and is drawn ideally for success in barrier 3.
