Real Love continued to firm in Premier’s Cup betting markets in the hours leading up to jump, and did her chances of success no harm whatsoever when jumping well and taking a handy position on the heels of Lever Lever and Puccini ing the post the first time.
Settling into a great rhythm over the back straight and receiving an ideal run in transit, jockey Brad Rawiller elected to peel the Desert King mare off the fence approaching the final turn and moved up alongside stable mate Puccini ahead of her final sprint.
Mustering a typically smart turn of foot over the final 200m, Real Love comfortably pulled clear to hit the line a length in the clear of Puccini; Benzini boxing on for a brave third.
Brad Rawiller has experienced plenty of recent success aboard Darren Weir-trained horses through recent seasons and was thrilled to chalk up another winner for Victoria’s leading trainer.
“She was terrific, she’s ticking along beautifully,” Rawiller said.
“I said after the JRA Cup after she won that she’s really done well since the Adelaide Cup, and it’s a credit to the team back at home.
“Darren Weir just keeps doing it and thanks to all the staff that are doing the beaut behind the scenes work.
“Today she was better again. When you’re 1-1 with nothing outside you and not getting around the track it can make it a little bit tougher.
“She was just a pro today, she’s a real class horse. I can’t wait for the Brisbane Cup.”
Stable representative for Weir, Jarrod Mclean was on hand for Real Love’s triumph in the Premier’s Cup and confirmed the mare will progress to her major target; the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm in a fortnight.
“She’s been a really handy addition to the stable and is in great order,” Mclean said.
“She obviously came to us off the back of an arduous Perth campaign, then we prepared her for an Adelaide Cup where she unfortunately didn’t quite get the trip.
“To be able to freshen-up and come back here today, win two in Queensland, I think it’s a real testament to what we can do in Warrnambool.
“She’s only a five-year-old mare, she’ll run here in a fortnight and I’m sure Weiry will have something planned but while she’s winning and in great form, I think we’ll keep racing her.”
In taking out the Premier’s Cup, Real Love has now posted a commendable nine wins and eleven minors through twenty-seven career starts.
