Divine Centuri Leads 2016 Queensland Day Stakes Nominations

Stuart Kendrick’s in-form filly from the Sunshine Coast Divine Centuri is one of the headline nominations for this Saturday’s Queensland Day Stakes 2016 where she will shoot for three wins on the trot if accepted.

One of seven Black-Type features on the Doomben 10,000 Day card this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, the $100,000 Listed Queensland Day Stakes (1200m) attracted 16 three-year-olds at nomination stage on Monday.

Four of those youngsters are last start winners including Kendrick’s daughter of I Am Invincible who won the Listed Mick Dittman Stakes (1000m) at home on the Sunshine Coast on April 23 before a win over 1050m at Doomben on May 14.

She has a stellar record so far at the Doomben track with two wins and a third from three starts that she’ll be looking to add to on the weekend with her second stakes success in three starts this campaign.

Third to Divine Centuri on BTC Cup day in the 3YOs Handicap was the Bruce Hill-trained Haradasun gelding from the Gold Coast Taillevent, another nominee for this weekend’s clash.

The other two last start winners in the mix are lightly-raced Le Dude, the Tony Gollan-trained Kamacite who also is after three consecutive victories and Ravi for Peter & Paul Snowden.

Local Northern Meteor colt Kamacite has won two of his four career runs so far after saluting over 1000m and 1200m respectively at the Sunshine Coast this month.

His latest was only last Sunday by nearly two lengths leading to Gollan nominating him for the quick back-up into Saturday’s tougher assignment.

Gollan has a total of four Queensland Day Stakes entries this season with Kamacite ed by Group 1 performed Stratum filly Strata Lady who is a New Zealand expat having her second run down under, the highly-rated Real Saga filly Secret Saga and returning gelding Most Important.

Most Important was second to Madotti at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day in the Group 3 Vo Rouge Plate (1300m) before a credible sixth to Mahuta in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m).

His latest run produced a second to Privlaka over 1350m at Doomben in late January, but he is yet to finish in the money from three first-up runs so far.

Ravi meanwhile will make it three straight wins if the Redoute’s Choice filly from Sydney gets the job done in the Queensland Day Stakes on the weekend.

Two back in early March she won over 1300m carrying a hefty 60kg to victory at Warwick Farm before her last start victory over 1200m at Randwick on May 18 with 61kg on her back from gate 15 of 15 in a brave effort.

Also coming into the race in good form is the Toby Edmonds-trained I Am Invincible gelding Always Sacred who won over 1100m in early April before a brave third to Takedown in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) on May 7.

Other notable entries include the John O’Shea-trained Lonhro colt Mogador who ran fifth to Japonisme in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington during the spring, Roeinda coming off a second in the Listed Denises Joy Stakes (1100m) at Scone in mid-May and the fellow Bjorn Baker-trained Sangiovese who ran fifth in the same lead-up race.
