All 23 original acceptors are still in the mix for this year’s $400,000 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) meaning a capacity 20-starter field for the weight-for-age showdown is likely.

Just three of the runners are under $10 to win in the latest Robert Sangster Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au however including the firming favourite Petits Filous ($7 into $6).

Only two three-year-olds have won the Robert Sangster Stakes in the past decade, but the money is on the Ciaron Maher-trained Street Boss filly Petits Filous to beat home her older rivals and atone for her last start 13th to Japonisme in Randwick’s Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m).

She’s followed in the Robert Sangster Stakes betting markets by fellow filly Don’t Doubt Mamma ($7) coming off a win at the track in the Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) and recent Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) winner Griante ($7).

So will the top three in betting also be the first three over the line or is there an upset Robert Sangster Stakes result pending from the likes of Badawiya ($11) for three-time winning trainer Mick Price or the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Bel Esprit Stakes winner Sheidel ($15)?

Our 2016 Robert Sangster Stakes Trifecta Tip is #10 Tuscan Sling from #17 Badawiya and #18 Don’t Doubt Mamma

1st

#10 Tuscan Sling ($14)

Tipping the upset from a Melbourne raider with the Darren Weir-trained Tuscan Sling drawn to win in barrier two with Brad Rawiller in the saddle. The Danehill Dancer five-year-old was in flying form at Caulfield earlier in the season including a second to subsequent Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner Azkadellia before she ran eighth in the RN Irwin here last start. She was beaten only 2.6 lengths by Nostradamus in her first Morphettville run and is out to atone, which she has the ability to do against a field of her own kind.

2nd

#17 Badawiya ($11)

Caulfield’s Mick Price has won this race three times, most recently with Bel Mer (2009), and has a livewire hope at a nice price to make it four this autumn. Craig Newitt rides this smart Al Maher filly who is drawn wide, but history shows plenty of success from double-digit barriers in the race. Third in the Thousand Guineas in the spring, she’s a Group 2 winner over Don’t Doubt Mamma in March at Flemington and comes off a seventh in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes, a tough run she can improve on here against easier company.

3rd

#18 Don’t Doubt Mamma ($7)

If you want to follow the Adelaide form, this is the filly to get behind. McEvoy’s daughter of Not A Single Doubt is flying having won two of her past three starts including a Group 3 in Melbourne. She was runner-up to Badawiya in the Kewney Stakes two back before winning her Morphettville debut a fortnight ago. Ticks lots of boxes.
