Sooboog Leads Euclase Stakes 2016 Field & Barriers

This weekend the action of the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival kicks off for Robert Sangster Stakes Day featuring a host of Group features including the 2016 Euclase Stakes led by Sooboog.

Miss Gunpowder

One of the country’s leading trainers Darren Weir saddles-up the Snitzel colt from barrier one in the 15-starter field for this year’s $250,000 Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m).

Due to run as Morphettville Race 5 at 2:40pm (local), the Euclase Stakes for three-year-olds features a number of exciting youngsters with Group 1 ambitions in Adelaide and or Brisbane over the coming months.

Brad Rawiller rides Sooboog from the inside alley, the horse looking to atone for a 10th in the Listed Manihi Classic (1100m) at the track last time out.

Drawn the opposite end of the Euclase Stakes field this season is the John O’Shea-trained Demonstrate, his hoop Craig Williams with work to do from barrier 15 of 15.

A son of New Approach, Demonstrate comes off back-to-back Melbourne seconds and is back in Black-Type company for the first time since his sixth to Mahuta in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) in the spring.

Also second at her two most recent runs this time in is local Pendragon filly Miss Gunpowder for Phillip Stokes.

Adelaide’s top jockey Dom Tourneur has the ride from a nice barrier two draw on the weekend, the filly last seen running second to Saturday’s Robert Sangster Stakes favourite Don’t Doubt Mamma in the Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) at the track a fortnight back.

Stokes has also accepted for his More Than Ready filly Cocoa Doll (14) coming off a close fourth in the Redelva stakes when beaten under one and a half lengths on the back of a 1200m win at the track from April 9.

The other top Redelva Stakes graduate backing up in Saturday’s Euclase Stakes is the Andrew Noblet-trained Written Tycoon filly Super Cash from Caulfield.

She improved on a fifth in the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) at Randwick for her Adelaide third last time out and will only improve off that having had a run at the track.

PJ Bell Stakes winning filly Tempt Me Not is a dual acceptor for Saturday’s Morphettville race card.

The daughter of Strategic Maneuver is trained by James Cummings and is drawn wide in barrier 13 for the Euclase Stakes and 18 (into 16) for the $400,000 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) with Glyn Schofield to ride her in whichever race she runs.

Other notable hopes include last start winner at the track / distance Faatinah for David Hayes & Tom Dabernig, VOBIS Gold Sprint runner-up Jalan Jalan and the Mick Price-trained Not A Single Doubt filly Secret Agenda.

Secret Agenda hasn’t won since her Group 3 Red Roses (1100m) victory down the Flemington straight over Tempt Me Not last November, but she caught the eye at Randwick last start when runner-up to Two Blue in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m).
