Change of tactics sees Attention win The Schweppervescence

A change of riding tactics saw Attention race on the pace before winning Group 3 $150,000 The Schweppervescence (1400m) at Rosehill today.

From barrier twelve in the fourteen horse field, Blake Shinn pushed Attention ($20) forward to sit just behind the leader and favourite Crafty Cop ($4.60).

Crafty Cop with Tommy Berry setting the pace led into the straight with the two two-year-olds have a one on one fight most of the way down the straight before Attention got the upper hand close to the post to score a narrow win from the fast finishing Prized Icon ($12).

Co-trainer Paul Snowden, who trains in partnership with his father Peter, said the plan was to ride Attention aggressively today after he was ridden back from a wide barrier last start when seventh in the Group 2 $175,000 Cafe Culture + Insitu Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 12.

“He has properly never stamped himself as a horse with a flashing light on, that’s why we wanted to pre race put him into the race,” Paul Snowden said.

“Bad barriers, he has been going a long way back and being pulled out of the race. Today Blake was aggressive on him, put him up on speed and he is one of those horses that keeps giving under pressure and you sort of don’t know his level where he can get to. He keeps finding.”

The Snowdens now have the option of running Attention in the Group 1 $1m Inglis Sires’ (1400m) at Randwick on April 2 or in the Group 1 $500,000 Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 16 or set him for the Brisbane Winter Carnival with the Group 1 $600,000 J.J. Atkins (1600m) at Doomben on June 11 looking a suitable target.
