Running as Rosehill Race 7 at 4:10pm (AEDT), this year’s $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) features a final field of 13 hopefuls led in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au by the Godolphin-raced filly Ghisoni ($4.60).
The three-year-old daughter of Lonhro holds a narrow lead over the markets to keep her undefeated record in check with a fourth win from as many career starts on the back of her Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) victory at Randwick a fortnight ago.
The market mover closing in on Ghisoni in the Coolmore Classic odds this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival is Melbourne visitor Azkadellia in barrier four.
Hong Kong-based jockey Brett Prebble jumps aboard as the Ciaron Maher-trained Shinko King four-year-old who is looking to bring her good Victorian form to Sydney.
She won the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) on Blue Diamond Stakes Day at Caulfield last time out and looks set to peak third-up in her first elite level run since a third to Politeness in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington October.
The other best fancied female miler-type in the mix at single figures is Solicit ($6) for Gerald Ryan who shoots for back-to-back wins after her Randwick success two weeks back in the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m).
So will the first three in the markets get the job done or is there value further down the odds in the Rosehill Gardens feature on Saturday such as Robert Smerdon’s Myer Classic winner Politeness ($13) or the rails-drawn Zanbagh ($15) coming off a second in the Guy Walter Stakes?
1st
#3 Solicit ($6)
While single-figure hopes don’t have the best recent record in this race, Solicit is in flying form and has the class to overcome the hoodoo this autumn. She is drawn a treat in barrier six, although it’s been a while since a winner jumped from this barrier (1996), and the lead-up for her has bene excellent. She is fourth-up and set to peak off three top two runs including behind Winx two back in the Apollo Stakes. She won the Guy Walter after that, the extra 100m will suit, she loves Rosehill (3-1-2-0) and isn’t too badly weighted.
2nd
#6 Peeping ($15)
Great value on Peeping who is the only runner trained by a previous winning trainer in the race this year, Ron Quinton. She has a wide alley, but 53.5kg is a good weight for the four-year-old who had 56kg on her back last time out for her Guy Walter third to Solicit second-up. She was runner-up at Randwick in a Group 3 before that and also has a brilliant three-from-four record at Rosehill, her latest win her producing the Group 2 Golden Pendant win last September. Sam Clipperton knows her well and is right in the mix with these kilos.
3rd
#8 Telepathic ($12)
Also at an attractive price is the Chris Waller-trained daughter of Mossman Telepathic who was a nice second in the Millie Fox Stakes to Group 1 winner First Seal in her returning run three weeks ago at the track. She has great Rosehill form (5-2-2-1), the distance is a non-issue (2-1-1-0) and she has won up to 2000m. Runs well second-up (5-2-1-0), was narrowly beaten last start and last year’s Coolmore Classic winner Plucky Belle also scored the upset at 15/1 on the back of a Millie Fox second.
