Early 2016 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas Odds

A bumper nine-race program runs at the Gold Coast for restricted gallopers including the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) where the Gary Portelli-trained colt Sebring Sun is the pre-field favourite to win through Ladbrokes.com.au.

A winner of two of his nine career starts to date the Sydney-based son of Sebring was third to Exosphere in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) in September before a failed 10th behind Japonisme in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Derby Day.

Portelli said the Flemington straight didn’t suit the now Queensland-bound youngster who pays $4.60 in the futures Magic Millions 3YO Guineas odds.

He is followed closely in betting by seven other single figure hopes including $5 co-second elects Flamboyant Lass and Mahuta.

Gai Waterhouse’s Stratum filly Flamboyant Lass only has winning form up to 1000m but caught the eye last time out on October 3 when beaten just over a length by stablemate Speak Fondly in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) over the Randwick mile.

She has since won a 730m trial at the same track and looks spot on for a summer return.

Mahuta is a Melbourne-trained three-year-old from the Melbourne Cup winning stables of Darren Weir with eyes on the Magic Millions prize in Queensland.

The Flying Spur colt has proved very consistent so far with four wins and a second from six starts, the quartet of wins all coming on the trot dating back to October 8.

He has risen through the ranks quickly have the spring including his Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day, October 31, and his last start success over Dal Cielo in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) over the same distance a fortnight later from a wide barrier 12 of 13 draw with Brad Rawiller retaining the ride.

Third pick for the Magic Millions Guineas at $6 is the Gerald Ryan-trained, nicely-bred Snitzel filly Perignon.

Her sire ran third as the beaten odds-on favourite in his first career loss in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic as a juvenile, with Perignon on track for the three-year-olds’ edition on the back of a Flight Stakes third from early October in Sydney.

Rounding out the all-in hopes under $10 are the Mick Price-trained Not A Single Doubt filly Secret Agenda ($7.50) who won a Flemington Group 3 on Crown Oaks Day, another daughter by the same sire Payroll ($8), Michael Moroney’s Sebring gelding Tulsa ($8) last seen running eighth in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) and Waterhouse’s Zizou colt Zoutenant ($8).
