Temple Of Boom Primed for George Moore Stakes Return

Popular veteran Temple Of Boom has been a strong and consistent performer for leading Queensland trainer Tony Gollan through a long and busy racing career, and is reportedly in great condition ahead of his return in Saturday’s Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) at Doomben.

Temple Of Boom has posted an impressive eleven wins and sixteen minors through sixty-one career starts since first appearing on course competitively at the beginning of 2009, and delivered Gollan his first ever win at the highest level when triumphant in the 2012 edition of the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) in Sydney.

Returning to racing in spring for an impressive third in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on August 8th, the Piccolo gelding was returned to the paddock after beating only one runner home in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) on August 29th, having found to be suffering from a minor ailment.

Gollan told Racing Ahead the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) on the Gold Coast in January remains the major target for Temple Of Boom this time, but he has been thrilled with the work produced by the nine-year-old and is confident he’s ready for a big performance in the 2015 George Moore Stakes on Saturday.

“He had quite a lot of mucus after the Memsie, so we tried to give him a break before the summer carnival here heading towards the Magic Millions,” Gollan said.

“Being older, it’s not any easier to get them fit, so the shorter lay-off should suit him.

“He’s had a 1000m jump-out, and plenty of course proper gallops, so he’s in good order for Saturday’s race.”

Unable to quite find peak form through a couple of campaigns following his 2012 The Galaxy win, Temple Of Boom returned to racing in particularly slick form in 2014 running sixth in The Galaxy in a brief Sydney preparation before returning to Brisbane for success in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) and close second-place finishes in each of the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) and Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).

Temple Of Boom was one of six runners included by Gollan in 2015 George Moore Stakes nominations, with a  final field and barrier draw set to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
