Ball Of Muscle Tops 2015 Caulfield Sprint Odds

Joe Pride’s ultra-consistent sprinter from Sydney Ball Of Muscle is early favourite to win his ninth race at career start number 17 this weekend in Melbourne’s Caulfield Sprint 2015 on Caulfield Cup Day.

The five-year-old son of Dubawi has never run worse than third and comes off back-to-back seconds, including a half-length effort behind Buffering in Moonee Valley’s Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at the start of the month.

He drops in class for his Caulfield debut this Saturday in the $200,000 Group 2 Dilmah Single Origin Teas Caulfield Sprint (1000m) over the same distance that features just eight final acceptors.

Carrying the 58kg top weight, half a kilo less than his Moir Stakes weight from October 2, Ball Of Muscle is looking to continue his ace form at the distance (5-2-2-1) with a win from barrier four on the weekend with Glyn Schofield.

The top-weight leads the latest Caulfield Sprint odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, who are offering an Extra 50% on your very first Fixed Odds winner on Races 1 – 5 at the meeting, at $3.20 and firming.

Following closely is the $3.60 second elect, Robert Smerdon’s returning Lumosty who meets the top fancy four kilos better in the weights with 54kg.

Drawn the outside alley in the small field, the four-year-old Fastnet Rock mare has Dwayne Dunn aboard for her first run since a third to Srikandi in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast on June 20.

She’s got a decent resuming record of a win and two seconds from three previous first-up runs and finished runner-up in her only other 1000m start to date in her debut behind Eloping at the Caulfield track back in January last year.

The other single figure hopes in Caulfield Sprint betting this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival are Kuro and Kinglike both paying $4.60 for the win from barriers seven and five respectively.

Lee & Anthony Freedman prepare Denman four-year-old Kuro who ran third behind Ball Of Muscle in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m) in Brisbane during the winter and who was last seen crossing third to Sabatini when beaten under half a length in a 1100m handicap at Caulfield on September 26.

He had a wide barrier 10 of 12 draw that day and was impressive to finish so close with 59.5kg on his back, four kilos more than his 55.5kg weight this weekend with hoop James McDonald retaining the ride.

Kinglike meanwhile is on the 54kg minimum with Glen Boss riding the lightly-raced Peter Moody-trained Exceed And Excel colt, the three-year-old having won two of his three career starts to date including the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 12.
