Open 2015 Stutt Stakes Betting Market

The Stutt Stakes 2015 betting market is a wide open affair for the Moir Stakes Night feature at Moonee Valley this Friday in Melbourne with over half the field under double figures to win the mile showdown.

Eleven three-year-olds are engaged in this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Jeep Stutt Stakes (1600m) with seven at single figures for the win including two hopefuls batting for top spot in the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Current narrow favourite is Sovereign Nation ($4.60) who is followed very closely in the Stutt Stakes odds by Ragnaar ($4.80), the well-fancied duo drawn in barriers three and four respectively.

The David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Sovereign Nation is a lightly-raced Encosta De Lago colt having just his third career start on the weekend, looking to improve on a seventh to Bon Aurum in the Listed Exford Plate (1400m) at Flemington on September 12.

He goes up to the mile for the first time here and is tipped to enjoy the extra metres as he heads possibly towards Saturday week’s Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) and even the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

On the same Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival path is the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Ragnaar who Ben Melham stays aboard the New Zealand-bred son of Roc De Cambes who debuted down under on September 17 with a nice 1400m win at Bendigo.

It is a logjam of well-fancied hopes following the top two including the other Kiwi expat in the mix He’s Our Rokkii ($5.50) in the outside alley, Polish Tiger ($6) and Collaborate ($6) on the rails with New Zealand hoop Opie Bosson booked for the ride.

He’s Our Rokkii is a stablemate of favourite Sovereign Nation and has Group 1 form back in New Zealand over 1400m when a close fourth to Marky Mark on March 28, while his latest run was a win over 1200m at Benalla on debut down under.

Polish Tiger is prepared by Caulfield horseman John Sadler, the nicely-bred son of Northern Meteor another last start winner having saluted at Sale on September 24 on way to his first black-type assignment in the Stutt Stakes.

Collaborate also comes off a win, the Murray Baker-trained Kiwi raider having saluted back in New Zealand last start on September 9 on a Heavy track with the son of High Chaparral yet to run on firmer ground.

Rounding out the hopes under $10 for the win are the progressive Patch Adams ($8) coming off back-to-back fourths and the super consistent Excellent Art colt Get The Picture ($8) for Stuart Webb.
