Trainer Kelso Wood has experienced notable black type success over the latter stages of the 2015 Brisbane Winter Carnival and is hoping talented three-year-old Dansolei will contribute to a strong final tally in this afternoon’s Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes (1800m) on the Gold Coast.

Dansolei has contested only five competitive starts so far, but returned to racing this time for a standout and comfortable win in the Australian Post Tensioning Handicap (1300m) on the Gold Coast on May 23^rd.

While unable to make much of a competitive impact when ninth in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on June 6^th, Wood is confident a return to three-year-old company and a step-up to 1800m for the 2015 Daybreak Lover Stakes is precisely what the Danzero filly is looking for.

“I’m keen to see how Dansolei shapes up over 1800m,” Wood told the Courier Mail.

“As we’ve gone along, I have started to think she’s going to run a trip.

“The way she’s gone in her last two runs suggests she is ready for it now.”

Wood is one of only three Queensland-based trainers alongside Robert Heathcote and Stuart Kendrick to saddle more than one stakes winner through the 2015 Brisbane Winter Carnival and is hopeful of further success on the Gold Coast this afternoon.

“I’m very happy with the way the past couple of months have gone,” Wood said.

“It would be nice to finish off with a couple more. It’s fair to say these horses running are the best in my stable at the moment and they’re all going particularly well.”

Further to Dansolei, Wood is set to be offered a great chance of Group 1 success via Real Surreal in the 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m), who comfortably saw off her rivals in last Saturday’s Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) at Ipswich.

The 2015 Daybreak Lover Stakes will jump race 4 at the Gold Coast this afternoon, scheduled for 1:57 AEST.
