Latest 2015 Queensland Oaks Odds: Winx Firms Further

The money continues to fly in for the Chris Waller-trained Winx to win the Queensland Oaks 2015 this afternoon at Doomben Racecourse and hand her master horseman with his maiden success in the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival classic.

Due to jump as Doomben Race 7 at 3:57pm (AEST), this year’s $500,000 Group 1 Treasury Casino & Hotel Queensland Oaks (2200m) field is at capacity with the Peter Moody-trained first emergency Imperial Lass getting a run from barrier one.

She comes in for the Gai Waterhouse-trained The Roses winner Bohemian Lily who was scratched due to a cut elbow before race day in a blow for those following the form of last weekend’s Group 2 lead-up.

After opening as long as $2.90 Winx, who will jump from barrier 10 which last produced a Queensland Oaks winner back in 1998 with Zacheline, has been smashed by the punters and now pays $2.30.

Hugh Bowman has the ride on the daughter of Street Cry who has had an unusual Oaks lead-up, running second in Sydney’s Group 1 ATC Oaks over 2400m two back before an impressive last-to-first win in the Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) a fortnight ago.

Two other fillies in the Queensland Oaks markets are also under $10 but pay a far more generous price than the firming favourite with Sebrina ($7) and Ballet Suite ($9).

The Bjorn Baker-trained Sebrina is a Glen Boss mount drawn a treat in gate five today and backing up from a luckless run when fourth to Queensland Derby hope High Midnight over 2000m in the mud at Randwick last Saturday.

She’ll appreciate a firmer track and further distance at Doomben today is the tip, apprentice hoop Brodie Loy replaced in the saddle for the Group 1 test by Boss who is yet to ride a Queensland Oaks winner.

Sebrina flew under the radar when Queensland Oaks betting on the capacity field went up earlier in the week but has had steady money coming in shortening her price in from double digits.

Ballet Suite meanwhile is a stablemate to the favorite Winx and also opened at $10 before coming into $9.

She has work to do from the outside alley (16 of 16) today, a tough ask but lead-up form is good as she won the Listed Princess Stakes (2000m) at the track on May 9 before bying The Roses and just having a solid track gallop at the Gold Coast last Saturday instead.

Kerrin McEvoy retains the ride on Waller’s daughter of High Chaparral, the hoop after his second win in the classic after a winning ride on the Peter Snowden-trained Purple (2009).

Other fillies to firm in the Queensland Oaks markets include the Bart & James Cummings-trained Zarzali ($21 into $14) who looks ready for a big run at this distance, Sunshine Coast Guineas ninth placed O’Reilly grey Swift Lady ($31 into $18), Kris Lees’ consistent daughter of Snitzel Rustic Melody ($26 into $21), Anaphora ($51 into $34) ridden by last year’s Queensland Oaks winning jockey Timothy Bell and the Moody-trained emergency Imperial Lass ($51 into $41) who now gets a run from the inside alley.
