Hi World All-the-Way 2015 Frank Packer Plate Winner

Peter Moody’s progressive colt Hi World saluted in his third straight turf triumph with an All Aged Stakes Day victory in the Frank Packer Plate 2015 at Randwick ahead of a spell with no Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival on the agenda for the three-year-old.

Moody confirmed the son of High Chaparral would go to Brisbane but it would be for a break and then pre-training with the mission being a spring return for the now four-time winner.

“I think he’s a very good quality colt and he’ll go to the paddock now to rest up for the spring,” Moody said post-Frank Packer Plate win.

“He’ll develop into a serious spring contender in the handicaps and maybe even the weight-for-age races.

“There’s good improvement in him.

“He’ll go to Brisbane but it’ll be for a holiday and to do a bit of pre-training.”

Last start Hi World saluted on a Heavy (9) Randwick track to win the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle, McEvoy retaining the ride for another win this time in the $150,000 Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m).

From barrier seven of eight, the punters’ pick took a while to get across and settle into the lead.

Once he did though he went all-the-way in an impressive effort and found another gear with McEvoy asked over the closing few hundred metres.

With the blinkers off Hi World settled well for McEvoy and on the line had two lengths to spare over the fast finishing Chris Waller-trained filly Wine Tales (2nd) and the Michael Moroney-trained Merion (3rd) – who both ran on late from the back.

As mentioned, Hi World found the front after the leaders sorted themselves out in the Frank Packer Plate having got caught deep early before moving to the outside of Stratalena.

Once he got into a clear lead he controlled the race while eventual runner-up Wine Tales, scratched from the ATC Oaks last Saturday, settled herself at the tail of the field and Group 1 performing O’Reilly gelding Merion travelled just off the pace before going well around the bend.

Merion and Wine Tales put on a cracking pace down the outside trying to chase Hi World on the fence, but there was no running down the inside galloper who found an easy lead and held on for the win to back-up Moody’s high opinion of him and his future prospects.

“He’s a nice colt and an exciting proposition and he’s got the job done nicely again,” Moody said.

“I told Kerrin to let him take himself there (to the front), don’t rush it.

“He relaxed nicely for Kerrin and that was very pleasing.”
