Jumping from the gates well, ‘Magic Man’ Joao Moreira pressed the I Am Invincible colt forward from the barriers and settled second behind Lord Of The Sky, who set a quick tempo for the talent-filled field of nine.

Finding the fore of the field with 500m to run, Moreira continued to up the tempo on Brazen Beau before exploding from the group; never appearing in doubt over the final 200m and jogging across the line well and truly in the clear of Chautauqua; Terravista running on for third.

Moreira produced a typically sensational ride on Brazen Beau for success in the 2015 Newmarket Handicap, revealing he was not expecting to find such a forward position so early in the runner.

“He is just an outstanding type of horse,” Moreira said.

“He really knows what racing is about, put in a good fight and just ran away from them.

“As I discussed with Chris before the race, I was expecting him to be a little further back then where he ended up.

“He just knows what races are about, he knows what he’s supposed to do and just jumped, travelled nice and wherever he puts himself he just kicks strongly at the finish.

“Last furlong and a half I knew he was already going to win because he was just going too hard to the line.”

Trainer Chris Waller was understandably emotional following Brazen Beau exceptional Newmarket Handicap performance, confirming a trip to Royal Ascot remains a realistic option for the leading stallion prospect following the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) during The Championships.

“I chose not to think about it and I’m getting a bit emotional now,” Waller said.

“You don’t see it every day and he’s beaten some very good horses and beaten them easy.

“He’s a very good horse, did a great job in the spring and has had a trouble-free preparation.

“I thought his run in the Lightning was excellent. Craig Williams got off him that day and said he ran super and they wouldn’t beat him in the Newmarket.

“It’s on the bucket life, that’s for sure,” he added of a trip to Royal Ascot.

“We’ll have a crack.”

Punters who backed Brazen Beau with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au have been paid out on generous $5.25 odds for success.

Having ed in the top five prior, Brazen Beau will likely re-open favourite in 2015 T.J. Smith betting markets following this afternoon’s impressive win.
