2015 Magic Millions Classic Odds Update: Wicked Intent Firms

Sunny skies and a firming track on the Gold Coast for Magic Millions Day today have seen the odds on the day’s feature race favourite, Wicked Intent, firm to win the Magic Millions 2YO Classic 2015.

The Wicked Style colt is one of a capacity 16 juveniles vying for the big payday in this afternoon’s $2 million Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) with Chris Munce to have his last ever ride before retirement aboard the galloper.

Wicked Intent has an ideal barrier five draw and comes off an excellent career start of three wins from four starts.

He won his opening three runs including the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1050m) at Doomben on December 13 on a Soft (6) track before going down by two lengths at the Gold Coast two weeks later.

His maiden start was a Gold Coast win so it wasn’t the track but the conditions, the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes (1200m) run on a Soft (7), that saw him suffer his first defeat when runner-up behind Mishani Honcho.

He opened at $6 as co-favourite to bounce back with a Magic Millions 2YO Classic win today through Ladbrokes.com.au but has since been smashed by the punters into $4.80.

It is good weather at the track today and the current Soft (5) rating is likely to be upgraded by the time the Classic runs as race six at 3:25pm.

That has the bookies more than wary about Wicked Intent winning and they won’t risk him at longer odds.

On the drift meanwhile is former co-favourite Claudia Jean, the rails-drawn filly from the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig stable out from $6 to $8 to remain undefeated after winning on debut at Flemington on December 20 by 3.5 lengths over 1000m.

Frequendly is the other best fancied filly who, like the favourite, has won three of her four starts leading into the Classic.

After sitting as short as $6 following an early move in from $6.50, the Les Ross-trained daughter of Sequalo comes off a victory in the Toowoomba Magic Millions Plate over 1050m but in her only run over further (1100m) she was a well-beaten third making today’s distance the query.

She’s out to $8.50 then, an equal price with Single Gaze who has firmed in from $9 following a nice gate six draw for the Nick Olive-trained Not A Single Doubt filly who ran third in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic last time out.

The last two single figure hopes then pay $9 with Gerald Ryan’s last start Canterbury winner Perignon out from $8 and Surf Seeker the other big market mover along with Wicked Intent firming in from $12.

Prepared by Hawkes Racing in Sydney, Wanted colt Surf Seeker comes off a second to Zoutentant on debut in the Wyong Magic Millions lead-up from December 18 and has been well ed for today’s rematch despite drawing out wide in barrier 18, into 13.

Money is also coming for the longer-priced Saga Of The Storm who has been cut from $19 to $15 to go back-to-back after the Liam Birchley-trained Real Saga filly won over 1100m at Doomben on December 20.
