Globetrotter Adelaide will lay down some roots in Australia after winning the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) on October 25.

The three-year-old horse is due to be the headline act of the Championships next year as he is transferred to the care of trainer Chris Waller after serving under Aidan O’Brien in the UK.

Coolmore’s media spokesman James Bester confirmed the news, stating the $4 million Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 11 would be Adelaide’s main target during the 2015 autumn racing carnival, with a tilt in the revamped Sky High Stakes (2000m) on March 14 acting as a potential lead-up race.

“We talked about many things including the transition to training and his program,” Bester told TVN.

“At this stage the Queen Elizabeth remains the ultimate goal and now with the new initiative with the Sky High Stakes becoming a set weight and penalties race over 2000 metres it suddenly makes it an appealing option.

“For a European horse like Adelaide that is a perfect lead in. The Sky High is now the same conditions as the Turnbull.

“Traditionally, Australians like to go two weeks, two weeks, but as Adelaide showed in the Cox Plate he can hit a peak performance off a longer break.”

Adelaide has yet to finish outside the first three from his eight career starts and has travelled the globe to race in Ireland, Britain, , and the USA before making his Australian debut in the 2014 Cox Plate.

He eased over heels to be the last out of the straight but took off at the 1000m to improve, gradually working his way around the field. He got up with the leaders at the turn and outstayed his rivals for his first Group One victory.

Waller is due to visit O’Brien at his famed Ballydoyle stable next month where he will get a greater insight into the newest addition to his team.
