Who Shot Thebarman is undefeated at Flemington Racecourse and a proven two miler but he is still at juicy odds to take out the Melbourne Cup 2014 at the track and distance this Tuesday, November 4.

The former New Zealander has been with another expat Kiwi, Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller since the autumn and has been targeted for the $6.2 million Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m).
A six-year-old son of Yamanin Vital, looking to be the fifth straight 6yo Melbourne Cup winner, is one of three for Waller in the race as he shoots for his maiden ‘Loving Trophy’.
Waller’s best chance according to the Melbourne Cup odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is Who Shot Thebarman who has firmed in from an opening price of $26 to $21 to win his second Group 1 over the 3200m.
He is ed in the field by stable mates Junoob ($26) who won Sydney’s The Metropolitan two back and Sydney Cup runner-up over the distance Opinion ($67).
Who Shot Thebarman took out the Group 1 Auckland Cup (3200m) at Ellerslie back in March before a disappointing ninth to The Offer in the Sydney Cup over the same distance in his Australian race debut.
This season he’s had five runs for two wins, both of which were at Flemington including the Group 3 The Bart Cummings (2520m) on October 4 with Glen Boss aboard for the wins.
Last start Boss was in the saddle again but the duo could only manage to finish four lengths away 13th to ire Rakti, now $5.50 favourite in Melbourne Cup betting, in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18 from barrier 13 (of 18).
Boss is a triple Melbourne Cup winning jockey, as is Damien Oliver aboard the Johnny Murtagh-trained Mutual Regard ($11) this year, thanks to the hat-trick from 2003 – 2005 with Makybe Diva.
Boss stays on Who Shot Thebarman for the 2014 Melbourne Cup with the pair drawn in barrier 13, the same gate they had for the Caulfield Cup.
Barrier 13 last produced a Melbourne Cup winner only three years back when the French-trained Dunaden won.
With improvement expected from Who Shot Thebarman when he gets back to Flemington, will it be enough to see him finish in the Melbourne Cup trifecta like the Caulfield Cup 13th placed Jakkalberry two years back who ran third to Green Moon in the world’s richest handicap?
