Half of the field is offering single figure odds with online bookmaker Ladbrokes.com.au, led by Greco at $3.70.

The Hawkes Racing-trained gelding will start wide from barrier eight with Dwayne Dunn in the saddle but remains clear favourite in the betting.

Risen From Doubt is the market mover in the betting, shortening from $6 to $5.50 overnight. The Tony McEvoy-trained colt will jump from barrier seven with Tommy Berry to ride.

Galaxy Pegasus is also available for $5.50 while Pressing and Law sit at $8.

Will one of these single figure hopefuls win the 2014 Red Anchor Stakes? Or will one of the five runners offering lucrative double digit odds cause an upset? Read on to see our betting tips.

Our 2014 Red Anchor Stakes Trifecta Tip is #1 Pressing from #6 Greco and #8 Shaf.

1st

#1 Pressing ($8)

The Mick Price-trained Pressing is new on the scene with just four career starts to his name but he’s shown potential, especially as a sprinter. He debuted with a win over 1200 metres at Caulfield back in April in the Mindy Green Plate before backing-up in the Listed Mt Dandenong Stakes (1200m), which he impressively won by 3½ lengths. The colt then missed out on a placing in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins Stakes (1600m) in June after being unable to keep up with the fast-finishing top three. It was still a commendable effort for the three-year-old. All three of these runs were from barrier three or lower which implies good things for Pressing’s Red Anchor Stakes run, in which he will start from barrier four. He is offering punters exceptional value for money at his current odds.

2nd

#6 Greco ($3.70)

Team Hawkes’ gelding is favourite in the betting to win the Red Anchor Stakes 2014 following a last-start win in a Warwick Farm plate over 1100 metres on October 15. Greco was a fantastic runner, running clear of his rivals without any threat, finishing 5 lengths clear of Disgraceful in second place. His Warwick Farm win followed two barrier trials win and punters are clearly expecting another easy run for the gelding. It’s worth noting his win came from a start in gate one while he’s drawn gate eight here, which could threaten his winning run.

3rd

#8 Shaf ($19)

Shaf is offering punters the very best value for money in the Red Anchor Stakes betting market at generous $19 odds to win or $5.10 to place. The David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained colt may not win but he definitely has a chance of finishing top three. Shaf has had five career starts, finishing outside the top three in just one and even that was a commendable fourth place. He has yet to step up to black type racing, which would be his one downfall as well as drawing wide in gate nine. He won his maiden back in August by 5 lengths, just like Greco, and could easily come home in the money at Moonee Valley.
