The Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) will run at Moonee Valley Racecourse this Saturday, one of the six ing black type races on Cox Plate Day.
There are five single figure hopefuls in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by Greco at $3.60.
The Hawkes Racing-trained gelding will jump from barrier eight with Dwayne Dunn to ride.
Greco is one of four last-start winners on the field, having won a Warwick Farm maiden plate over 1100m on October 15. He impressively won the race five lengths ahead of his closest rival, which has given the bookies hope of a repeat performance in the Red Anchor Stakes.
The three-year-old has also run two barrier trials in the last month, both of which he won.
However, Greco faces some tough competition in the betting with four other runners offering single figure odds.
- #10 Galaxy Pegasus ($5.50) – the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained colt will get a good start from barrier eight with champion jockey Damien Oliver in the saddle. The colt has only had three career starts to date, two of which he won.
- #3 Risen From Doubt ($6) – the Tony McEvoy-trained colt has only had five career starts, but has already ran in the highest level of racing after starting the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) in April. He didn’t fare well, finishing end of the field, but returned well in a Morphettville handicap on October 11, finishing second.
- #1 Pressing ($7) – Mick Price’s colt is one to watch after drawing barrier four. He has won two of his four career starts including the Listed Mt Dandenong Stakes (1200m) in May.
- #2 Law ($8) – Chris Waller’s colt is the highest rated runner on the field after running the most races, including winning on debut back in October. After being spelled for six months, he has returned for a hit-and-miss season but a great barrier one draw should see him return in fine form.
Will one of the single figure hopefuls win the 2014 Red Anchor Stakes? Or will an outside runner with lucrative odds steal the victory?
