Boss Expecting Competitive Chivalry in McNeil Stakes

A notable performer over his maiden racing campaign, jockey Glen Boss has been confirmed to partner Chivalry in this weekend’s Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield and is excited by the three-year-old’s prospects through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

Finishing outside the places just once in four competitive starts so far, Chivalry has not been seen at the races since finishing a credible eighth in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd.

Pleased to have picked up the ride on the Street Cry colt for his first-up appearance in the 2014 McNeil Stakes, Boss told AAP he has been thrilled with the feel Chivalry has offered in trackwork and trials, but conceded he will be far-better upon reaching the mile.

“He’s more like a Guineas-type of horse. He’s going to get a mile and probably beyond,” Boss said.

“He’s done nothing at this stage to say that he’s not a really good horse to me, with everything he’s done with me.

“Every piece of work and every trial has been really spot on.

“If you have a look at him on Saturday he’s a magnificent colt.

“He just oozes quality. So I would imagine he will come out and run really well.”

Finishing second to I Am The General in the Leadwest Plate (1000m) on debut on December 14th, Chivalry charged home to secure a maiden race win ahead of a classy field which included the likes of Bugatty in the Quest Moonee Valley Plate (1000m); running on to secure third behind boom colt Rubick and Jabali in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) on February 8th.

Yet to be confirmed for a specific racing path beyond the 2014 McNeil Stakes, Chivalry is currently available at generous odds of $17 for success in the featured Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), to be run on October 11th.

Leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best odds on this weekend’s McNeil Stakes, for which Chivalry is available at a generous quote of $9 for success, or $3.10 to run a place.
