Spring Plans Not Set in Stone for Resuming Foreteller

Confirmed to return to racing in this weekend’s Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Racecourse, trainer Chris Waller has revealed he is yet to settle on plans for talented gelding Foreteller through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

A standout performer over the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, Foreteller won the Group 1 Makybe Stakes (1600m) on September 7th, finished second in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) and fourth in the Cox Plate (2040m) most notably.

Confirmed in nominations for the 2014 edition of the Cox Plate last week, Waller said the major aim for the son of Dansili this campaign will be to win prize money, but has not decided how he will set the seven-year-old at this stage.

“Genuine weight-for-age horses these days are few and far between, but he’s one of them,” Waller told the Herald Sun.

“I’m the first to it he’s not the best horse Australia’s ever seen but he’s been great for his connections and has been a tremendous money-sprinter.

“He’s another year older, we’ll try and steer away from the leading horses and try and sneak a bit of prize money where we can.

“The plan with him is to place him where he can win money. If he can win a race, then we would revisit our plans.”

Currently offered as a $7 chance for success in the P.B. Lawrence Stakes this weekend, Foreteller has been confirmed to be partnered by renowned jockey Hugh Bowman, who is confident of a polished performance despite the short running distance.

“He felt good to me in the trial, obviously he’s not known for his good trial form but he felt good,” Bowman told Racing Victoria.

“There will be more suitable races coming up for him but I think he can sprint well fresh.

“He’s a horse that always sneaks under the radar, he doesn’t get a lot of publicity but he’s won some really nice races along the way and he rarely runs a bad race.

“He’s definitely going to be better over 10 furlongs later in the campaign.”

Leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best early odds on the 2014 Cox Plate, for which Foreteller is available at a generous quote of $34 for success.
