Let’s Make a Melbourne Cup 2014 Deal – Blackiston

Local Flemington-based trainer Nigel Blackiston is looking to go all the way to the 2014 Melbourne Cup at his home track on the first Tuesday of November with his Sydney Cup graduate Let’s Make Adeal.

The Red Ransom mare, a grand-daughter to 1991 Melbourne Cup winner Let’s Elope, caught the eye at the course on Friday morning with a solid jump-out, a gallop that impressed Blackiston.

“Let’s Make Adeal just went along at her own tempo and finished second under a good hold,” Blackiston told Racing Network.

Turning five next week, Let’s Make Adeal is being prepared for a big Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

Her major aim this time in will be the $6.2 million Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) on November 4, a race she missed a start in last spring.

“Obviously I’d like to be able to take Let’s Make Adeal to the Melbourne Cup, that is her aim,” Blackiston confirmed on Friday.

A New Zealand import, Let’s Make Adeal ran a close second to Ruscello in the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) on Victoria Derby Day last year in her final shot at making the capacity 24-horse Melbourne Cup field.

Lexus Stakes winner Ruscello did make the cut but finished second last, 57 lengths off Fiorente.

Let’s Make Adeal meanwhile ran again on Emirates Stakes Day instead and came third behind Bart Cummings’ veteran Precedence in the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m).

Her autumn campaign this season included three Group 1 assignments where she ran seventh in all of them.

Most recently she stepped up to the two miles in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) on April 19 when eight and a half lengths off Gai Waterhouse’s now Melbourne Cup favourite The Offer.

After settling midfield in the Sydney Cup Let’s Make Adeal blundered at the 700m mark and so was far from disgraced in her efforts.

Having spelled well and now trialled well also, Blackiston is hoping this spring will be his mare’s time to shine.

The bookies have acknowledged the Melbourne Cup is her goal but only have her in the futures markets as an outside chance at $101.

Blackiston also trialled another of his stars on Friday with You’re So Good also having their first hit-out ahead of a spring return.

“You’re So Good won her trial, so I’m very happy with both horses,” he said.

The Savabeel mare was last seen racing in Adelaide’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1400m) when second last (11th) behind Driefontein.

Their spring could feature another possible shot at the $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) in November where they finished 11th to Red Tracer in last year from a wide gate.

“With You’re So Good we’ll tackle a couple of listed races with her first and decide where to go after we see how her form is,” Blackiston said.
