Co-trainer Leon MacDonald has confirmed a first-up target for Champagne Stakes winning filly Go Indy Go ahead of her first Group 1 target of the new season, the Thousand Guineas 2014.

A winner of two of her four starts to date, the lightly-raced Bernardini filly is back in work and set to resume racing in the $150,000 Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Racecourse on August 30.

A rising three-year-old prepared at Morphettville by MacDonald and his son-in-law Andrew Gluyas, Go Indy Go has a number of elite level targets this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

The first of those is scheduled for Caulfield Guineas Day on October 11 where she’ll go up against her own kind in the $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m).

Latest Thousand Guineas betting odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are narrowly led by the Darley-owned Blue Diamond Stakes winner Earthquake ($5.50) who was last seen running second to Mossfun in the Golden Slipper in early April.

Go Indy Go then occupies the second line of betting at $6.50.

Her ultimate goal this spring will then take place at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival with her trainers hoping she can stretch further for a shot at the $1 million Group 1 VRC Crown Oaks (2500m) on November 6.

“We’re definitely thinking Thousand Guineas and I think that will determine where we go after that but whether she’s going to be a real stayer or not we’re not sure,” Macdonald told RSN this morning.

Third pick in the futures Thousand Guineas odds is then the Peter Moody-trained Bring Me The Maid at $8.

Moody confirmed earlier this month that the Guineas was the “logical target” for the daughter of Sebring who ran third in the Golden Slipper.

Currently in pre-training in Queensland where she was spelled along with a number of Moody’s other spring stars including the Cox Plate-bound Dissident, Bring Me The Maid is likely to resume next month.

Her spring preparation heading towards the Thousand Guineas though is still being mapped out.

Also in the mix for a Thousand Guineas run before backing up the following month over longer in the 2014 Crown Oaks meanwhile is the Brent Stanley-trained daughter of Northern Meteor Veuvelicious.

After pre-training at owner David Moodie’s property she returned to Stanley at his Kyneton stables this month.
