Looks Like The Cat Set for 2014 Caulfield Guineas

Rising to prominence on the back of an impressive campaign through the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, in-form trainer Tony Gollan is confident of another successful preparation through the Spring Racing Carnival for rising three-year-old Looks Like The Cat, which will be geared towards the featured Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 11th.

Yet to finish outside the places over four starts, Looks Like The Cat took continue steps-up in distance and class in his stride, arguably performing at his best in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins over a mile at Eagle Farm most recently; displaying a keen turn of foot to make up noticeable ground and finish third.

Understandably thrilled at the early career form shown by the Husson colt, Gollan told Racing Ahead Looks Like The Cat will resume in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 13th before continuing on to the Caulfield Guineas.

“I think we saw him at his best when he got out to the mile on the bigger track (in Brisbane) and that’ll be the same in Melbourne,” Gollan said.

“I think we’ll see him at his best Guineas Day and also when he backs up in the 2000-metre race the week after.

“We’re going to try some blinkers on him in trackwork this time in, maybe even do that in the jump-out before we head down.”

Debuting with a comfortably two length victory in the XXXX Gold 2.y.o Handicap (1200m) on February 8th, Looks Like The Cat more than laid his claims as one to watch over the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival when finishing second to Brazen Beau in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) on May 10th and third in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) prior to his most recent tilt at the J.J. Atkins.

Outlining his intentions to travel to Melbourne for the 2014 Caulfield Guineas, Gollan’s classy colt is currently available at generous odds of $11 to take out a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing on October 11th; sharing the second line of betting with likely opponents Chivalry and Meursault with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
