A standout performer over early events in his maiden racing preparation during the 2014 Autumn Carnival, trainer Gerald Ryan confirmed the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) is likely to feature as the major target for Rubick this time in, with stops at Group-level sprints all likely to precede.
“The Coolmore Stud Stakes in November is the aim, but the Danehill will tell us how well he handles the straight course,” Ryan told AAP.
“If he seems like he needs to run around a turn then we can change plans.”
Debuting with an impressive turn of foot to win the TAB Iphone App Plate (1000m) on January 25th, Rubick laid his claims as a leading contender for major two-year-old events throughout autumn with an impressive victory in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude C&G (1100m) on February 8th, but was unable to match the late pace in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd, finishing fourth and returning to the spelling paddock.
Having reportedly taken well to his time in the paddock, Ryan said the Encosta De Lago colt has gained size and mental maturity, and will return to racing in spring a legitimate threat to Group 1 races.
“He has put on weight and is more mature,” Ryan added.
“I’m looking forward to the spring. Some of the other two-year-olds are in pre-training, so hopefully they make the step up to being goog three-year-olds.”
Exciting fillies Earthquake and Mossfun have also been confirmed to have returned to work this week, while possible Coolmore Stud entrant Cornrow has been back in work for close to two weeks.
