Maher Confident of Polished Performance from Srikandi in Glenlogan

Trainer Ciaron Maher is confident resounding pre-post favourite Srikandi will justify her already huge from punters and win the 2014 Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) ahead of a possible tilt at the major Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 7th.

Undoubtedly facing her biggest test to date in this wekeend’s Group 3 at Doomben, Maher told TVN is the calm, well thought out approach taken with Srikandi that is to thank for her incredible career starts of five wins and one second playing from six competitive starts.

“The fact we have given her plenty of time is now paying dividends” Maher said.

“Because we have been so patient now that she is getting close to four, we can give her an extra run of two that you normally wouldn’t do.”

Strolling home to win the Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m) by nearly three lengths at Doomben last weekend, Maher said the Dubawi filly would have to another similarly impressive victory if to justify a Stradbroke berth.

“She was just cantering last week; she would have done more work on the Tuesday on the track than she did in the race on Saturday” Maher said.

“If we’re going to go to the Stradbroke and be a chance to win that, she would need to win again tomorrow.

“And if she doesn’t, it simply means she’s not good enough.”

Debuting with an impressive turn of foot to win the Slickpix Plate (1000m) with ease in September, Srikandi has returned to the track in incredible form this season; unlucky to finish second in the Drain Man Filles 3.y.o (1000m) first-up before securing four victories back-to-back, including the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) on the Gold Coast prior her most recent triumph in the Juanmo Stakes.

While allocated the wide and slightly awkward barrier 14, Srikandi has opened as and maintained clear favouritism in betting markets for success in the 2014 Glenlogan Park Stakes; currently featured at a quote of $2.60, ahead of Platinum Rocker ($6), Plucky Belle ($7) and Chintz ($7.50).
