Arabian Gold Primed for 2014 The Roses

Trainer David Vandyke is confident of continued success for in-form stayer Arabian Gold in this weekend’s Group 2 The Roses (2000m) at Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse after producing a typically strong piece of work on Wednesday.

Claiming two impressive victories in major Group 3 events most recently, Vandyke told AAP he could not be happier with the way Arabian Gold has taken to racing over her recent preparations.

“She’ll be up near the top of her game, that’s for sure” Vandyke said.

“If she can pull this off she would have run second to Guelph in the spring in Sydney, she would have won a stakes in race in Melbourne, two stakes races in Sydney and a stakes race in Brisbane.

“I don’t know if there is any other horse that has been able to do that this season. I don’t know who has competed at all four carnivals.”

Content with a final gallop on Wednesday, Vandyke is thrilled with the allocation of the ideal barrier 1 and is confident in-form jockey Blake Shinn will again get the best from the Dubawi filly in the 2014 Roses.

“Normally I would gallop her on a Tuesday, but I didn’t want to work her when I got up to Queensland” Vandyke added.

“I thought if I gave her a good gallop on Wednesday she wouldn’t have to work on Thursday or Friday and there would be nothing worse than having her tie-up or something.”

Returning to the track in arguably career best form this season, Arabian Gold finishing s fighting fifth in the well-contested Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 22nd, and although blocked for a run in each of her next two races, returned to winning form in taking out the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) and Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) most recently.

Aiming for her hat-trick of Group-level titles this weekend, Arabian Gold has opened as and maintained resounding favouritism in betting markets for success in the 2014 Roses, currently offered at a quote of $2.25, ahead of Hera ($4) and Asadauskaite ($11).
