Star Fashion Leads 2014 SA Fillies Classic Nominations

Coming off a Group 1 second at the track, David Hayes’ visiting filly Star Fashion is the headline nominee for the SA Fillies Classic 2014 at Morphettville Racecourse this Saturday.

A total of 19 three-year-old fillies are nominated for this year’s $115,000 Group 3 SA Fillies Classic (2500m) that runs as part of The Goodwood Day action in South Australia on the weekend.

The top-rated of the early entries is Street Cry filly Star Fashion coming off two good runs in Adelaide.

A winner of just one of her 10 starts to date when beating them home by six lengths first-up at Geelong back in February, Star Fashion ran fourth to Gamblin’ Guru in the listed Port Adelaide Guineas (1800m) in her maiden SA run two back.

She was then last seen finishing a mere nostril flare off the winner May’s Dream in the Group 1 Schweppes Australasian Oaks (2000m) here on April 26.

Saturday she gets a chance to atone for that devastatingly close defeat when stepping up to the 2500m for the first time.

Other Schweppes Oaks graduates nominated for the SA Fillies Classic then include the Greg Eurell-trained High Chaparral filly Navajo Run (6th), the Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained Artistic Lass (7th), Mark Kavanagh’s daughter of Fastnet Rock Love The Rock (8th) and Every Faith (9th) for Robert Smerdon.

Along with Artistic Lass, recent Hall of Fame inductee Macdonald and his co-trainer Gluyas have also nominated for Too Cool To Fool in this year’s SA Fillies Classic.

Smerdon is also dually represented in the SA Fillies Classic nominations for Saturday, Every Faith ed by Zabeel filly Rezoned who ran 11th in the Schweppes Oaks on the back of some good Melbourne form.

Other notable hopes include Anthony Freedman’s Geelong winner from last Sunday Transit Moscow, Auraria Stakes fourth placed Perfect Company out to atone for their dead last in the Oaks here, the Peter Moody-trained Kept Woman and Jason Warren’s in-form daughter of Sebring Unlawful.

The official SA Fillies Classic 2014 field and barriers will be out on Wednesday so stay tuned.

In the meantime why not get ready for another big Group 1 race meet in Adelaide on the weekend by g up with Ladbrokes.com.au where punters get instant access to their winnings in cash thanks to their exclusive EFTPOS Card system!
