Peter Moody’s Wangoom Handicap winner Kneeling is nominated to back up in Adelaide this weekend against her own kind in the Proud Miss Stakes 2014.

One of five Group races on Morphettville’s The Goodwood Day line-up, this year’s $115,000 Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) drew a bumper 22 nominations.
The top-rated nominee for the fillies’ and mares’ feature is Moody’s Encosta De Lago five-year-old Kneeling who is looking to go back-to-back if accepted.
She broke a nine month winning drought at Warrnambool last week when holding on in a tight finish with the always honest Blackie to win the $150,000 Wangoom Handicap (1200m) in the mud making her jockey Linda Meech the first female hoop to win the race.
Moody then could look to keep the good times going for Kneeling by taking her to South Australia for the Proud Miss this weekend.
There’s also a chance that, if successful there, she could be sent to Queensland for a shot at the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival riches.
One of her main dangers looks to be local hope Just Discreet, the Phillip Stokes-trained Exceed And Excel mare having run second to Assertive Eagle in this race last year when it held only Listed status.
The now five-year-old has been in good form of late including her Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) third behind Driefontein and Platelet two back.
In her latest run she ran eighth behind the Gai Waterhouse-trained Driefontein again when stepped up to Group 1 company for the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) on April 26, an effort she’ll be out to improve on here.
Another Robert Sangster Stakes graduate nominated to back-up in this is the Samantha Barr-trained Molto Bene (12th) who ran dead last beaten 13 lengths.
Another mare in flying form meanwhile nominated for the Proud Miss is then the David Hayes-trained Girl Guide.
The four-year-old daughter of Churchill Downs has won four of her five starts to date, including her last three on the trot.
Most recently she won a Benchmark 84 over 1300m at Sandown a fortnight ago, form Hayes hopes she can bring to Adelaide for a Black Type win.
Other notable hopes include Barry Dunn’s last start Oakbank winner Bella Dolce, promising Statue Of Liberty filly Miss Steele coming off a Moonee Valley win from March and Robbie Griffiths’ in-form Nadeem Lass.
The full Proud Miss Stakes 2014 nominations are listed below with the final field due for release on Wednesday.
