Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival queen Silent Achiever will look to continue her dominance in the weight-for-age features this season, Roger James’ Kiwi mare to miss the Sydney Cup in favour of the Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2014 on Saturday.

A dual nominee for Sydney Cup Day at Royal Randwick on the weekend, the flying daughter of O’reilly has been confirmed for a shot at the $2.4 million first prize on offer for this year’s lucrative $4 million Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m).

She’ll be dropping down in distance for the classic, however connections realise this kind of prize money doesn’t come around very often and it’s worth the risk, and that in the wet conditions the two miles could be out of her reach.

The five-year-old was last week co-favourite with Gai Waterhouse’s The Offer, winner of the Chairman’s Handicap this Saturday gone, to take out the $1 million Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m).

It would have been the talented New Zealander’s first look at the 3200m, however it was a trip she was tipped to enjoy after her form this time in.

Winning back-to-back races at home, including the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m) in early March, Silent Achiever came back down under again for two more elite level wins.

The first was a narrow effort over roughie shot Carlton House in the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill, a race she ran fifth in last year, and then she backed up on April 5 to beat It’s A Dundeel in the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) after her second in the feature 12 months earlier.

Both runs were impressive, especially The BMW where she won running away after hitting the lead with 200m to go, the mare relishing the Heavy (8) track.

It’s likely to be another rain affected course for the Queen Elizabeth too, where Silent Achiever currently sits as $4.40 second pick to win through Ladbrokes.com.au and run better than her fourth in the race last year.

“The 3200 metres on a wet track could be too taxing,” James told AAP.

“But the Queen Elizabeth is going to be a very hard race [too].

“She tried to win it last year coming back from the 2400 metres of the BMW and didn’t.

“And there will be some new horses like the ones coming out of the Doncaster for the Queen Elizabeth which makes it even harder.”

Queen Elizabeth Stakes odds are led by Waterhouse’s Ranvet Stakes runner-up Carlton House ($3.40), the Street Cry six-year-old tipped to turn the tables on their last start conqueror and the apt favourite being owned by the Queen.

The stallion got to the front early last start, leading by six lengths with 800m left to go.

Unsurprisingly they couldn’t hold that lead, but they did kick on again over the closing stages and were far from disgraced when just nosed out of the win.

They are going to be ridden much colder in the Queen Elizabeth no doubt, the European import just now starting to acclimatise down under and find their feet over this distance.

Also under double figures in the pre-field Queen Elizabeth Stakes betting markets are five time Group 1 champ It’s A Dundeel ($6) out to improve on their The BMW second and last year’s ATC Oaks winner Royal Descent ($9) who are also among the 69 nominations taken for the race this year.

Just three more of those are under $20 to win however, the trio all stable mates of the Chris Waller-trained Royal Descent.

After dominating last weekend’s Doncaster Mile with an historic First Four lead by the successfully defending champ Sacred Falls, Waller is looking for another feature race sweep here.

His other major hopes are Chipping Norton Stakes winner Boban ($10), last winter’s Queensland Derby champ Hawkspur who ran fourth in the Doncaster and his now dual Doncaster winning four-year-old Sacred Falls ($13).

He won’t be backing up his Doncaster third placegetter Weary however, the French import not quite ready for weight-for-age according to Waller.

Waller is also after his third Queen Elizabeth Stakes win in the past four years following his success with Reliable Man last year and My Kingdom Of Fife in 2011.

The official 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes field will be announced on Tuesday along with the three other Group 1 Sydney Cup Day races following final acceptances at noon.
