Confirmed to line up alongside 12 opponents for race 5 at Flemington on Saturday, champion jockey Damien Oliver will take the ride for the first time on Suavito, whose claims received an even great boost when allocated the ideal gate 2 at Wednesday’s barrier draw.
Debuting with a strong second behind talented sprinter Solicit in the City Of Ballarat Plate F (1100m) on September 1st, the exciting Thorn Park filly has since claimed wins in the Tracy The Placement People Maiden (1200m) and Sunrise Cup (1400m) and finished an unlucky second behind Dothraki in the Listed Hilton Hotels & Resorts Stakes (1400m) most recently.
Opening at a quote of $16, Suavito’s price for Kewney Stakes success has been slashed several times to currently instil her at a price of $11.
After producing one of the most consistent 2013 spring campaign of any Australian racer, Solicit had returned to the track in peak condition in 2013, and is currently clear $2 favourite for success in this weekend’s Kewney Stakes.
Trained at Flemington by the team of Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, Solicit claimed victories in the City Of Ballarat Plate and Sportingbet Best Tote Plate (1200m) to open her memorable spring preparation, and undoubtedly peaked in form when third behind Kirramosa and Zanbagh in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) on November 7th.
Having claimed the Group 3 The Vanity first-up with ease on February 15th, Solicit will again be partnered by jockey Damian Lane and will jump from the slightly awkward barrier 9.
Michael Kent-trained Marianne is outright second-favourite in betting markets for the 2014 Kewney Stakes, and will jump centre field from barrier seven with usual partner Craig Williams on board.
The Darci Brahma filly has returned to the track in 2014 in good form, following up a competitive third in the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) first-up with a strong second to Spirits Dance in the Group 2 Angus Armanasco (1400m) on February 22nd.
Currently featuring as the only other runner offered at a price of less-than $10, Simon Miller-trained Miss Rose De Lago is offered a good chance of securing a maiden Group 2 crown in the 2014 Kewney Stakes after drawing barrier 6.
The classy Encosta De Lago filly has secured three wins from only seven racing starts so far, including the Group 3 Sky Vodka Champion Stakes (1600m) on November 16th.
