The big race in Queensland this weekend is the Ipswich Cup 2013 for the end of season stayers and already the classic winter feature has had an early scratching with Tony Gollan withdrawing his Toowoomba Cup winner Bang On.

Having attracted a capacity field of hopefuls the news Not A Single Doubt mare Bang On, who had drawn the extreme outside barrier, won’t be running in the $200,000 Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m) paves the way for the first emergency I Gotta Feeling to come in.
John Wheeler’s five-year-old comes off a good third at the Sunshine Coast over the same distance from May 31 and with a nice gate five draw for this weekend could be a value bet at $51 to consider for exotics.
Bang On meanwhile was rated a $21 chance to secure the Toowoomba Cup – Ipswich Cup double before their scratching.
Toowoomba-based Gollan will still be represented in the race however by Topping in barrier 13 with Larry Cassidy to ride.
The Top Echelon six-year-old was fourth in the Toowoomba Cup and also fourth the run before at Eagle Farm when finishing four lengths off Quintessential in the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap (2100m) on a Heavy (9) track.
Topping remains steady at $12 in the Ipswich Cup betting markets, an equal price with the Graeme Boyd-trained Kiwi veteran, rising 10-year-old Ginga Dude who is out to improve on their distant 12th to Precedence last start on May 25 in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m).
Peter Moody’s imported Italian Group 1 winner Voila Ici meanwhile remains at the top of the odds having drifted out from $3.50 to $3.60 to break their maiden status down under.
The striking grey Daylami eight-year-old ran well early in the spring last year including their second to Ocean Park in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) and close fourth to subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) but failed in their spring cup assignments.
This time in things started off shaky but they showed progression at Eagle Farm at the start of the month when under a length away third to Quintessential in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m), their performance in which has seen them installed as the Ipswich Cup betting favourite.
On the second line of betting is then the rails-drawn Planetarium who has also eased out in their price to become this year’s Ipswich Cup winner out from $7 to $7.50 despite the Gerald Ryan-trained Sydney visitor’s nice win over 1818m at Eagle Farm last start.
Other notable chances in the first half of the markets then include New Zealand-trained High Kin ($9 out to $10), Brian Smith’s Magic Albert seven-year-old Za Magic (steady at $10) coming off a second to Planetarium, former SA Derby champ Zabeelionaire ($14 out to $15) and Sunshine Coast galloper Master Avatar ($15).
