Lloyd Kennewell’s local Morphettville-based stayer Rialya will look to break a losing streak that has gone on for 14 months when last year’s Adelaide Cup winner steps out in the 2013 RA Lee Stakes this Saturday.

The Kempinsky five-year-old has failed to run top three in any of their runs since taking out the Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) last March, something Kennewell hopes will change in the $150,000 Group 3 RA Lee Stakes (1600m).
However with their poor recent form, wide barrier 14 of 14 draw, the 57.5kg topweight and the fact their best racing is over 2400m and above it looks unlikely Rialya will be the one to beat in The Goodwood Day feature.
Following Rialya in the RA Lee Stakes weights with 56.5kg is then the defending champ Linton from the stables of John Sadler.
The six-year-old Galileo grey won the race last year in their only run in an 11 month period.
This time in they finished a first-up fifth to Black Caviar in the William Reid Stakes before winning a Listed 1400m race at Morphettville Parks last month when carrying a hefty 62kg.
There are five other last start winners in the RA Lee Stakes mix this weekend including the Peter Moody-trained duo of Cosmic Causeway who comes off successive wins at Caulfield over 1700m and 1800m respectively, and Bel Esprit five-year-old Oregon Spirit who won over the Flemington mile on Anzac Day.
The others after back-to-back victories are then the Sam Kavanagh-trained local Midsummer Sun drawn ideally with barrier two, Keep The Faith mare Lucky Penny, and Mick Price’s General Nediym three-year-old General Peekay who gets the run of the race from gate one.
General Peekay is surely one of the top chances here having won their past two races in Adelaide firstly overcoming barrier 13 of 14 to take out the Listed HC Nitschke Stakes (1400m) at the Parks and then their narrow victory in the Listed Adelaide Guineas (1600m) last Saturday.
Other notable hopes then include the John Thompson-trained Isopach, Street Cry seven-year-old Road Warrior who was second to Linton last time out and Richard Jolly’s consistent gelding Mr Lowndes.
