The three-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock, purchased for $130,000 from the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sales, won her opening two career starts in impressive style including the Group 3 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) first-up at Warwick Farm on August 25.
She was injured during the run of her maiden Group 1 assignment however suffering cut to her firght front leg that required four stitches after when finishing three and a half lengths away sixth to the Peter Snowden-trained winner Epaulette in the $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 15.
Thompson however is happy with her recovery labeling Nechita, who returned to his Randwick stables on Monday, Melbourne-bound with the filly to target the $500,000 Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).
“She worked this morning,” Thompson said on Tuesday.
“She trotted out sound, the stitches are out and the wound looks good.
“She’s appreciated the week freshen-up so we’re pretty happy.
“She’s really freshened up and seems in good spirits.
“I’ll just see how she trains in the next two weeks to see whether we need to have a run going into the Coolmore or just give her a barrier trial up the straight (at Flemington) and go straight into it.”
Won last year by the now retired superstar Sepoy, the 2012 Coolmore Stud Stakes is one of the key feature races running at Flemington Racecourse on Victoria Derby Day which is the opening Melbourne Cup Carnival meet running on Saturday November 6.
Nechita is one of two live-wire Coolmore Stud Stakes chances for owner, Patinack Farm’s Nathan Tinkler who is also sending Longport into the classic.
Winner of the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) at Royal Randwick on September 22, Casino Prince filly Longport is set to race again this Saturday nominated for both the $400,000 Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) and the $400,000 Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) in Sydney this Saturday.
