Do You Think He Can Win Inglis Sires Produce Stakes

Maestro trainer Bart Cummings is brimming with confidence going into today’s $500,000 Group 1 Inglis Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) as the experts and punters tip his unbeaten colt Do You Think to win the Cups King his 265th Group 1 race at Randwick’s AJC Derby Day.

Do You Think is the Inglis Sires Produce Stakes favourite today

Do You Think has been firmly backed to continue his form having won the Group 3 The Schweppervescence (1400m) at Rosehill last Saturday when the son of Starcraft missed out on a start as the first emergency for the Golden Slipper Stakes.

Drawn in barrier eight with Hugh Bowman booked for the ride, Do You Think shortened into $5.50 to the $3.70 favourite to win the Inglis Sires Produce Stakes.

His price dramatically firmed following the scratching of Anthony Cummings’ Smart Missile earlier in the week.

“I think he (Do You Think) was a good chance in the Sires even with Anthony’s horse in the race,” Cummings said.

“I reckon he would have beaten him.”

Do You Think is by Starcraft out of Chickens and was originally named Ingham.

Connections chose to rename the colt in after the previous Bart Cummings-trained star and dual Cox Plate winner So You Think was sold overseas last year in order to keep the name going.

“I wanted to call it Rethink but I was a bit too late coming up with that one,” Cummings said.

The name today is irrelevant, all that matters to Cummings is that Do You Think gets a nice run and delivers in Randwick Race 6 at 3:00pm (AEST).

Money has also come in for the likes of the Peter Snowden-trained Helmet ($5.50 into $5) and longer-priced outsider the Guy Walter-trained Exceed And Exalt who has firmed in from $26 to $19.

Snowden is on a run with the two-year-olds having won the Slipper with Sepoy seven days ago and then taking out the opening Derby Day race, the Kindergarten Stakes, in terrific style with improving filly Anise earlier today.

Exceed And Excel colt Exceed And Exalt is drawn ideally in barrier three for today and with the Randwick track now upgraded to a Dead (4) being close to the rails is proving to be an advantage.

Walter is out for a second Inglis Sires Produce Stakes win having scored with Excites five years ago.

The Warwick Farm-based trainer remains positive but also a little wary of his chances with Exceed And Exalt today.

“Obviously it is a very tough race and he’s going up in class again but he won well first-up at Canterbury and his second star was very good in the Pago Pago Stakes,” Walter said.

“I’m very happy with I’m very happy with him, he’s done a couple of bits of work (since the Pago Pago) and he’s in very good order.”
