2011 Queens Cup Result – Waller Strikes Again With Syreon

Syreon

Syreon wins the Queen's Cup at Rosehill

Chris Waller has capped off an amazing 2011 Golden Slipper day by taking out the Group 3 Queens Cup at Rosehill.

Syreon was a $13.00 chance pre-race, and raced away from the field to record an impressive win, while Beijing Boy was second and race favourite Base was third.

Syreon capped off a memorable day for Chris Waller who earlier won the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes with Rangirangdoo.

“What a great day,” said Waller.

“He’s done a great job. He’s a tough horse. That’s three races in three weeks and he’s been super competitive every time,” said Waller.

After the impressive showing in the Queens Cup Waller was keen to enter Syreon in the Doncaster Handicap.

“I had to make sure he was paid up (for the Doncaster). I realise it would be a big jump in grade, but I wouldn’t discount him,” said Waller.

Chris Waller’s great day was capped off by the fact that his 100-1 shot Beijing Boy ran second in the race.

Pre-race favourite Base got a long way back in the run, and never looked like coming into the race, however produced a solid last 200m to finish the race third.

Rainbow Styling loomed up outside the leader during the final straight however he was unable to get past the leaders.

The race was run at a good speed thanks to Solid Billing who tore away during the race but faded badly in the run home.

After Hawk Island ran fourth in the BMW and Rangirangdoo’s win in the George Ryder, the Chris Waller stable took home over $400,000 in prize money from the 2011 Golden Slipper day.
