Rangirangdoo has won the 2011 George Ryder Stakes on Golden Slipper Day at Rosehill
Rangirangdoo, who was a $15.00 outsider for the race, beat home Love Conquers All in a close photo while Triple Elegance was third and race favourite Aloha fourth.
It was an emotional win for Waller, who came close to losing the horse after a major injury set back in the Spring.
“Full credit goes to the staff,” said an emotional Waller.
“Their attention to detail is what got this horse back on the track. I guess we did think he’d need another run to reach peak fitness, but words can’t explain it,” said Waller.
Corey Brown picked up his second Group 1 of the day and surprisingly thanked opposition trainer Gerald Ryan for the win.
“I was going to ride Melito in this race but Gerald put her in the Queen of the Turf, so I rang Chris and thankfully he and his owners had the trust in me,” said Brown.
The George Ryder Stakes is the second Group 1 for Rangirangdoo after he also claimed the Doncaster last year.
Love Conquers All finished a close second, a particularly brave effort considering she made the running for most of the race.
Another Chris Waller runner, Triple Elegance finished third in what was an ideal lead up run for the Doncaster Handicap.
Race Favourite Aloha finished fourth, although it was not beaten far.
Interestingly, during the week Chris Waller proclaimed that this race was Danleigh’s to win, saying Triple Elegance and Rangirangdoo still needed another run to reach full fitness.
